Yangon United and the League Cup Context

Yangon United’s victory was their first-ever championship; however, the league winner was declared as Shan United. On July 6th, Yangon United defeated Shan United 1-0 in the championship final match hosted by the Thuwunna Youth Training Center Stadium. After the half-time break, the lone goal was scored by Auto Saito. Although Shan United finished with more points (the two teams competed in 22 total games), this win demonstrated that Yangon United can defeat the league champion in a single-game final. The results clearly indicate that the domestic season was much closer than just the standings would suggest.

Why Shan United Stayed Ahead

Shan United’s title was built on reliability. The club finished the league season with no losses, 18 wins, and 4 draws, and hardly lost points against lower-table rivals. 

Several factors explain why the champion stayed in front:
